First responders battle to donate most blood

The Sirens for Life Campaign is back for another year, and Joanne Drake of Canadian Blood Services says it’s crucial to get donations in the summer time because their regular donors are away on vacation.

OPPMembers of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Organized Crime Enforcement Bureau (OCEB) have dismantled an organized crime group that was controlling illegal drug distribution in the Timmins area.

Police have charged 25 individuals with numerous Criminal Code (CC) and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) offences after executing search warrants in northeastern Ontario and Niagara Falls on July 28, 2015.

The 12 month long investigation named project ASHLEY, focused on disrupting and dismantling an organized crime group operating in the area of Timmins.

$1.2-million coming to Timmins armoury

An investment of $1.2-million will be spent on the Cassidy armoury on Algonquin, which will cover the refurbishment of the building and paving of the parking lot.

Timmins hits a record high temperature

July 28, 2015 sets a new temperature record on this day at over 33 degrees.  The previous record was set all the way back in 1963, when it reached a high of 31.1 degrees celsius.

Ombudsman report could be Marin’s last

Ontario Ombudsman André Marin today released his tenth annual report, marking the end of an historic year – and decade – that saw the largest investigation in the history of the office, the enactment of legislation extending the Ombudsman’s mandate to municipalities, school boards and universities, and an 86% increase in complaints received since 2009-2010.
